ABOUT THE MAKER | MEET JES BAILEY

I’m Jes Bailey, the creative hands behind Mess by Jes. I was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, and went to college at James Madison University with a BA in Studio art and an art ed licensure (go Dukes!). My husband coaches baseball at Hampden-Sydney and our son is coming up on being one year old! I'm an elementary art teacher in Charlotte county and when I'm not teaching art, I'm making some of my own.

I’m a hand letterer and I specialize in things such as addressing envelopes, signage, logos and decals. I’m currently in the works of creating my own fonts, so keep an eye out for those in the near future. Sometimes it’s hard for me to admit my hobby is finally starting to become a business. What started as doing wedding signs for myself, turned in to getting paid to do them for others. Eventually I plan to do my artwork full time, but until then I’ll keep art teacherin’ to the future Picasso’s of the world!

We're surrounded by bits of brilliance that we

consistently ignore, in our hustle and bustle world. I

try to stop and capture those bits of brilliance, and

bring them into focus (pun intended). I see the world in a different light - and try to bring that to those who view my images. I love to experiment and explore all kinds of art, so I have also played with fractals, kaleido-images, Zentangle, digital collage, and stained glass.

My love of photography came as a result of a solo trip to Italy, in 2002.                                                                   When I came back with over 1100 images, my husband bought me a printer                                                           - which came with digital editing software. I began experimenting with the                                                                 editing program, and I was hooked. I love taking "what is" and turning it                                                                   into "what it COULD be."
